Ghana is now open for travel and we’re looking forward to having our volunteers back in action! Our policy is here to make sure you can do this safely and securely, in the full reassurance that you’ll never lose the opportunity or your money on account of COVID-19.
Yes – we are currently receiving bookings for placements starting from June 2022!
Kotoka International Airport is now open and rigorous safety measures have been put in place by the Ghanaian government. Volunteers will be required to present a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken up to 72 hours before departure, and will also be tested at Kotoka Airport upon arrival.
We are also taking every precaution to ensure that our volunteers have a safe and enjoyable environment to live and work in. This includes regular cleaning routines, supplies of hand sanitiser, adapted risk assessments and clear procedure in the event of a covid case in our volunteer community.
Throughout the pandemic, Ghana has successfully kept coronavirus cases low, which qualifies it as a ‘green light’ destination under the latest UK categorisations.
It is important when you’re booking travel insurance to check if the provider’s policy includes COVID cancellation cover. Our 24/7 advisors are able to offer guidance on this and offer reliable providers.
Furthermore, if your trip is affected in any way by the COVID-19 pandemic, you’ll be able to amend your placement as you choose, by taking advantage of our flexi-booking option (see below).
To ensure that you can book with confidence and security for the upcoming months, we’ve introduced a flexi-booking policy that guarantees you a rearranged travel date or a refund if Coronavirus makes it impossible for you to travel.
So if, closer to the time of your departure, it’s looking like your journey is going to be affected in any way, then you’ll be able to re-arrange the dates of your trip at no extra cost, or we’ll offer you a full refund.
In line with our flexi-booking policy, we’ve also relaxed our payment deadlines. There is a fully-refundable deposit of £40 to reserve your place upon booking, then the project fees can be paid anytime up to 2 weeks before your departure.
Our highly experienced team will be on hand constantly to support you through the pre-departure process and while you’re out in Ghana. You will be advised on what precautions and measures to take, and we will update you of any changes that may affect your placement. All areas that volunteers are working in will be thoroughly assessed for risk before work commences.
